About this opportunity

UofTHacks is the University of Toronto's flagship student hackathon — a 36-hour in-person event that brings together 500+ students to build projects, with workshops and mentors on hand throughout. The official site confirms UofTHacks 14 for January 2027 as an in-person event; exact dates and the application window are not announced yet. From the official FAQ: attending is completely free, with food provided and the venue open for the whole event. Both high-school and university students can join regardless of experience, teams are up to four people, applications are individual (you can form a team before or during), and all work must be done during the event with a public GitHub repo. There is no virtual track — everyone on a team must be in person to be judged — and travel is not reimbursed. Sleeping quarters are not provided. If you have never done a hackathon, this is the least intimidating serious one in the city: you do not need to know how to code, and the design and business side of a project counts.

What you get

  • 36 hours of building with 500+ other students
  • Workshops and industry mentors for technical and career advice
  • Food and venue access for the whole event, at no cost
